Fjellflorakullet, 1 uke og navn

the Mountain Flora litter, 1 week old and names

Since this is Fjellbris' (Mountain breeze) litter, I wanted to give the puppies names connected with the mountains. I ended up with mountain flora names.

Cloudberries is commonly found in mountain marshes. The berries are enjoyed by many as a jam or in a Cloudberry cream. Some makes it into liqueurs as well. Cloudberry flowers early in the year and because of this is easilly harmed by a frost night. If the plant is damaged by frost it will not set berries that year.

Molte (Cloudberry), Rubus chamaemorus

Black Crowberry thrives in the high mountains, on marshes and in fir and pine woods. In Norway it is a verry common plant up to an altitude of 1800 metres. In the high  mountains the most common variant is bisexual.
Personally I think of this plant in connection with hikes in the mountain where I often has encountered this little hardy plant, and eaten its berries as well.

Krekling (black crowberry) Empetrum nigrum ssp. hermaphroditum

Glacier Crowfoot is a plant that only thrives in the mountains, and is the flowering plant growing at the highest altitudes on the Scandinavian penninsula. Glacier crowfoot is also found other places in Europe among them the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Carpathians.
In the spring it has white flowers, and later in the year it becomes more tulip shaped and has a purple colour.

Issoleie (glacier crowfoot) Ranunculus glacialis

There are more than 100 genera of heather. These are though, woody and relatively small plants. Often normally found in acid and infertile growing conditions such as in the mountainous regions. Common heather is the heather that usually comes to my mind when I hear the word heather. This is a dwarf shrub common througout almost the entire country (Norway). However it is commonly found heathland and moorland in the rest of Europe too.
This is a plant you easilly will encounter when you go hiking in the mountains, and in many ways it is a typically Norwegian plant. It is one out of two national flowers for Norway. In addition this is one of several wild flowers that reminds me of my grandmother on my father's side.
Røsslyng (common heather) Calluna vulgaris
